Lady & Fortress of San Felipe De Borojas

30″ x 24″
Oil on canvas

In front of the Fortress of San Felipe De Borgia Cartagena, Columbia, South America the word must have gotten out that a tourist would pay a US dollar to photograph them. So when a second lady appeared and wanted her dollar I could not say no. I have to admit when I first photographed her I did not appreciate her as mush as the fist lady. After getting home and going through my photos I changed my mind. I hope I was able to capture some of the charm she radiated with her selection of colorful dress. I decided to just use the Fortress of San Felipe De Borgia as the background. I wonder if the Borgia name has any connection with Alexander VI the Borgia Pope. With a dollar to photograph and $20 of art supplies the pleasure I received painting her was priceless. I joke that having my art keeps me on the edge of sanity. I do know that if I didn't have my art no amount of money could pay for the psychiatric help I would have needed this last year. Having this fun subject matter to paint made my life wholesome and complete.
