Masked Dancer
20″ x 24″
Oil on canvas
After cruising through the Panama Canal we went up the west coast of Mexico. We stopped at four or five different Mexican port cities. I have lived in Mexico twice. I had no desire to go on any sightseeing tours. One port’s welcome Center had a sunken arena where young Mexican performers danced continuously. Each group of performers were well-trained and skilled. The mezzanine was full of shops encouraging tourists to spend money. I have no idea which port I was in. All of the young performers were wearing colorful ethnic costumes. Thank heaven for digital cameras because I was able to enjoy photographing to my hearts content. This unusual subject matter was painted for my personal enjoyment. The only way this plastic mask was distinguishable from a face is the dark eye slits.
