May Fest

20″ x 24″
Oil on canvas

In May 1994 I visited my sister and her daughters Adrian and Jamie in Missouri during Memorial weekend. My alter motives were revealed with my hat collection and request for models. In photograph Adrian was sitting on the front porch stoop wearing a black floral print dress. In this painting the pastel background was substituted for the stronger harsh porch. The wildflowers were emphasized to contrast with the black dress. After 25 years I will probably revisit this subject with a completely different approach. Learn from each drawing and painting.
This pretty girl is now a beautiful woman, married, and the mother of a son and daughter. She teaches biology and chemistry and was nominated for teacher of the year.
