Monet’s Garden Lilly Pond #4

24″ x 30″
Oil on canvas

Water Lilies are Monet’s signature subject. Monet had a long and prolific life as an artist. He was born in 1840 and died at the age of 86 in 1926. Monet persisted in the Impressionist concept of painting natural lighting. He would often paint the same scene at different times of the day to express different lighting moods. Monet completed about 250 water Lily paintings. He painted about 43 large paintings when his site was limited by cataracts. The waterlily painting in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri where I grew up was approximately 14 feet wide by 7 feet in length. These large paintings are the pride and joy of art museums all over the United States. I can name five that I have personally seen.
