Humming Birds with 2 Hatchlings
14″ x 18″
Oil on canvas
Hummingbird season starts mid-March and ends in October. The Ruby Throated Hummingbird is the only species commonly found in Alabama. The number of hummingbirds that come to my feeders depends on the weather. Peak Hummingbird season is in August when all of the new fledglings arrive. Male and female immature birds can only be distinguished by their tail feathers. Good luck trying to distinguish them even when they are holding still feeding. Public television has a great Nature program on Hummingbirds. I purchased a field camera to get photos of Hummingbirds and other wildlife. This painting is a composition from my imagination. The Hummingbirds are portrayed anatomically correct. Hummingbird watching is so much fun. Only God could make a Hummingbird.
