Ratmus the Great

12″ x 15″
Mixed media on paper

Ratmuss is my second mouse. Ratmuss is genetically related to the Sabertooth Cave Mouse. He has the same split ear trait that has been passed down from generations of mice. Years ago when I was decorating my lake level I decided that it should be fun. After visiting Fort Lauderdale and King Tut (Tutankamun) Egyptian exhibition I designed a Egyptian Lotus stencil to top the chair rail. Of course I needed an Egyptian Mouse. I purchased a book on hieroglyphics and researched the name. In the book there was no hieroglyphic for mouse. The Egyptians did not use vowels so my English translation may be spelled wrong. Question? Why did the Egyptians not use the color purple? The youngest child soon learns to mix red and blue to make purple. Find some purple in Egyptian artwork and prove me wrong.
