The Blue Steed

Oil on canvas

This fabulous two-story carousel is located in Honfleur, France. This is a harbor town located in northern France on the English Channel. It has been prominent in many historical events. The name Honfleur is derived from old Viking. However fleur has nothing to do with the word flower. This Carousel was beautiful and in perfect condition down to the tiniest detail. Our tour group of oldies all had a chance to ride it. None of the group declined. Somehow very mature adults riding a carousel was not inspirational for a painting. Later after enjoying the Harborside, I returned to the Carousel. I was thrilled to see it ridden by children. I was able to snap great pictures. I wanted to keep the painting loose while accurately capturing the beauty of the carousel as well as the pleasure the little girl was experiencing from riding her Blue Steed. Children are my favorite things to paint.
