The Chicks of Key West
16″ x 20″
Oil on canvas
A few years ago I spent three days in Key West Florida. It was fun. I like Jimmy Buffett music. However constant uninterrupted noise from scratchy loudspeakers everywhere was an overload. The whole tourist area was full of feral chickens. The merchants got upset when they thought I was feeding them. I was only photographing them. This hen and her chicks were perfect. I used several photos to arrange the chicks in a composition of my own choosing. The merchants would like to eradicate the chickens but the tourists enjoy them. All hail to the tourists. They did have professional rooster control guys. I don’t know if they are still employed. My money is on the roosters. They are early risers with very loud, very vocal calls at any hour. This was a just for fun painting.
