Tulips in Blue Glass
30″ x 24″
Oil on canvas
Tulips are great flower to paint they go through so many stages. Starting out as tightly closed buds, then to traditional tulip shape, progressing too haphazard droopy petals. Keeping them in the refrigerator slows down the process. After several hours of a photograph session they will start to droop. My painting is not even started until I have sketched my composition in my sketchbook. Then transfering the drawing to my canvas. By using photographs I can play with many camera angles, lots of different accessories and lighting effects. I can go through my photos, choose, print and draw on my own time schedule. We all get stuck in waiting rooms and airport terminals from time to time. I always have sketches ready to paint.
